Motorhomes have come a long way since the first home-built house cars of the early twentieth century. Pictured here is a 1931 22-foot house car built on a Chevrolet truck chassis owned by silver screen sex-goddess Mae West. The vehicle, which has a 6-cylinder engine, capable of achieving the blistering speed of 55 miles per hour, has an all-wood interior, 2-burner stove, and kitchen sink. The vehicle sleeps four. The most interesting feature of Ms. West’s home on wheels is the rear balcony, which provided her with a platform to address her adoring fans. Other than her voluptuous figure, Mae West is known for her double-entendre quotes meant to confound the censors. Some of the most famous quotes attributed to her are, “Why don’t you come up some time and see me?,” “It’s not the men in my life; it’s the life in my men,” and “Too much of a good thing is wonderful.” When asked if censorship had affected her prosperity, she said, “I believe in censorship. After all, I have made a fortune out of it.”
Looming over Mae West’s house car is a 42-foot 2005 Monaco Dynasty, which sports a full kitchen with microwave, range, freezer/refrigerator, and washer/dryer. The master bedroom, which has a king-size bed, doubles in size via a slide out. The combination living/dining room also has a slide out that increases the room’s size enough to accommodate two overstuffed swivel rockers, a sleeper couch, Corian-topped dining table, and complete home-entertainment unit with a 24-inch plasma television.
