This Besotes was built by Charles and George Besotes of Stockton, California. The Besotes brothers are best known as builders of finely crafted runabout boats that are now highly prized by collectors. In all, there were about two hundred Besotes runabouts manufactured from the end of World War II until the company’s demise in 1973, but there was only one motorhome. The foundation of the 29-foot motorhome is a GMC chassis powered by a rear-mounted Chrysler V8 gasoline engine that delivers power to the wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission. The body of the Besotes has tubular framing covered with an aluminum skin. Except for the addition of a couple of modern conveniences, like a generator and air conditioning, the interior remains unchanged. The construction of the Besotes was started in 1967 and completed and registered as a GMC motorhome in 1969. The current owners, Donn and Laurie Bosworth, acquired the Besotes in 2003. Photographed at Camp Richardson, Lake Tahoe, California. |
